Tumor volume
Precise volumetric assessment of brain tumors is relevant for treatment planning and monitoring. However, manual segmentations are time-consuming and impeded by intra- and interrater variabilities.
see ABC/2 formula.
The long-used geometric calculation formula is 1/2 (length × width × height). However, it yields only rough estimates and is particularly unreliable for irregularly shaped masses.
Robust methodology that allows objective, automated, and observer-independent measurements of brain tumor volume, especially after resection, is lacking.
The volumetric method had the strongest agreement with regard to radiological response (κ = 0.96) when compared with 2D (κ = 0.54) or 1D (κ = 0.46) methods 1).
